When overseas visitors think of wildlife photography in Australia they often think of Kakadu. But in the north of Western Australia we have an alternative to the wetlands of Kakadu with our own lagoons, billabongs, fresh and saltwater crocodiles and birdlife.
One example is the Ord River in the East Kimberley. A 320 kilometre long river with its headwaters located beyond Purnululu National Park and the Bungle Bungle Range it flows into Lake Argyle and all the way to the Cambridge Gulf at Wyndham. The lower reaches support an important wetland known as the Ord River floodplain and has protected areas that contain lagoons, creeks and extensive flood plains.
For photographers this is a sensational area for bird and wildlife photography as well as top landscape locations.
During my July 6 Day East Kimberley Photography Tour we will photograph the Bungle Bungles, the Ord River nature reserves and the red rock gorges of El Questro Wilderness Park.
Equipped with a 4WD and access to purpose built boats we have all your access needs covered.
If you are travelling south along the Gibb River Road past El Questro Wilderness Park you will come across more rivers and billabongs with perfect habitat for birdlife, dingos, freshwater crocodiles and other northern Australian wildlife.
The number one key to wildlife photography is patience. Have plenty of time, make yourself comfortable, don't disturb the wildlife and wait for the light.
